Filming begins on The End of the F***ing World for E4 & Netflix. by Charlie Langdell

Filming begins today on the 8 x 30 minute series, adapted from Charles Forsman’s award-winning comic books of the same name, written by Charlie Covell with Alex Lawther and Jessica Barden leading the cast.

James and Alyssa are rebel teenagers running away from home. On a weird and wonderful journey across a diverse British netherworld… From dreary suburbia and rundown shopping malls to lush landscapes and big vistas, they’re on a quest to find a better life.

James is a loner teenager who rarely engages with the world around him. Instead, he lives a rich internal life, peppered with eccentric violent fantasies – some of which he acts out on inanimate objects and small animals. He privately harbours the fantasy of killing something bigger one day – a human…

Alyssa is the original teenage rebel. Feisty, fearless and foul-mouthed. But beneath the surface is an aching soul. She’s carefully moulded her image to match an idealised vision of her absent antihero father because she feels side-lined by her mother and ostracised from her new step-family.

As James and Alyssa embark on a quest to find her mythical father, Alyssa discovers uncomfortable truths about her life and the world around her – a grown-up place full of treachery and confusion. Adrift and confused about who she is, her only hope could be a disaffected loner who may be planning to kill her…

The series will air later this year on E4 in the UK and Netflix worldwide. Read more here.
